I'm Rooney. Known to many as the Nonprofit Board Builder.

My journey started many years ago as a nonprofit founder. I built my first board, made mistakes, damaged relationships, learned some difficult lessons, rebuilt my board, and eventually developed a process that worked.

Since then, I have experienced nonprofit leadership from almost every side.

I have founded and led a nonprofit. I have served on nonprofit boards. I have worked directly with founders and executive directors as a fundraising consultant. I served as Vice President of Client Acquisition and later Vice President of Client Services for a fundraising consulting firm working with nonprofits across the United States.

I have trained hundreds of nonprofit founders and fundraisers, worked with organizations across the country to strengthen their boards and fundraising systems, and contributed to fundraising efforts that have generated more than $5 million.

But one lesson has remained consistent throughout all of that experience:

Everything rises and falls on leadership.

I have watched founders struggle because they were trying to build, fund and carry their organizations almost entirely by themselves.

And I have watched what happens when the right board is built around a leader, understands where the organization is going, and has the skills, experience and structure to help get it there.

That is why I became the Nonprofit Board Builder.

Today, I help founders and executive directors build the right board and work with their board to build the fundraising capacity and systems their organizations need to raise money, grow and achieve their mission.
